Tune Into Tuna Biryani
My Family’s love for Biryani is no secret. But Tuna Biryani? Well, our family’s weirdness is no secret too!
Since Tuna curry has made it appearance quite a few times in our family dinners, we decided to see if the meaty, juicy Tuna fish will fare well with the delicate, aromatic flavors of Biryani.
Tender pieces of tuna were marinated in a myriad of spices for half-hour, the same amount of time needed for Basmati rice to soak and swell up too. The fish were then cooked with caramelized onions and tomatoes. A portion of partially cooked curry was set aside and was later layered with the partially cooked Basmati rice. The pot was then sealed and cooked on “Dum!” Just means, slow cooked — was trying to sound like a Biryani connoisseur! Never mind!
It being a week night, all the regular accompaniments like Salan(a peanut based curry) and Salad were compromised. However, Tuna Biryani passed the test of taste put forth by my critical crew and has won a place in our family favorite dinner menu!
