Not as scary as Scoville says..

By Mini Kommu

They looked like bell peppers, so should be as innocuous, I thought, when I first met these little golden bombs. With a Scoville score range of a 100,000 to 300,000, Habaneros abound not just with spice but also with flavor. Fresh from the garden..

The bounty from the garden took many forms, the favorite of which is showcased here: Habanero Chutney. Freshly picked Habaneros were roasted in a generous dollop of ghee, along with split chick peas and horse gram. A cup of chopped tomatoes and a small piece of tamarind joined the party and were made to mingle until they softened up. This concoction, was ground to a coarse chutney and served rightfully with ‘Kichidi’ — a rice and lentil medley. Complimenting flavors commanded all ‘Ahh’s’ and ‘Ohh’s’
